Da Paolo Gastronomia: Valrhona Chocolate Cake

When you are craving something chocolatey, what do you turn to? A good friend once polished of a loaf of Phillippa's Belgian Chocolate Brownie in a day and a half. Several friends go for Tim Tams. If you are in Singapore, I suggest you try Da Paolo's Valrhona Chocolate Cake.

What can beat the thick layer of rich, bittersweet Valrhona fudge on top, and dense, moist cake below, with another layer of frosting in-between? Da Paolo's Valrhona Chocolate Cake is certain to vanquish all your chocolate cravings. My sister, who grew up on Lana Cake Shop's chocolate cake with me, remarked that the cake was the best chocolate cake in Singapore that she had had.

People talk about the chocolate cake from Lana Cake Shop and Awfully Chocolate, the chocolate fudge cake from The Patissier, and the Guanaja from Rive Gauche. I am really surprised that Da Paolo's cake is not amongst the list of the top chocolate cakes in Singapore.

Try it and let me know!

  2. Thanks for the tip! The last time I had cake from NYDC was possibly 10 years ago. It was their New York Cheesecake, which I found "diluted" in taste compared to Da Paolo's in that NYDC probably goes for lighter crumb whereas Da Paolo's cakes are rich and heavy. Most of the time I prefer rich, buttery, heavy cakes because lighter cakes leave me feeling like I hadn't really eaten much cake at all :S One exception is pandan chiffon :)
