Snacks: Roasted Almonds

The pictures of the meals I post are sometimes not my only meal of the day. Sometimes, and especially if I have worked out hard that day, I get hungry again about two hours later. That is when I go digging in the fridge for something that can is ready to eat (e.g. leftovers, salad veggies) or something that can be easily cooked.

Roasted almonds are one such snack that can be easily cooked. About 10-15 minutes in the Air Fryer at 200 degrees celcius and they are ready to eat.

(Warning: Roasted nuts can be addictive. If you know that you will have difficulty stopping yourself, best to not even touch it with a 10 foot pole. Just stick to boiled eggs!)

You can get raw almonds from Chinatown for S$10/kg. In terms of freshness, they cannot of course compare to raw almonds in the US, but their level of freshness is acceptable.

If you prefer the freshest nuts, you can find almonds on
- NOW Foods roasted & salted almonds (454g) sells for US$6.64
- Bob's Red Mill whole almonds (which I think are raw) (283g) sells for US$6.48

And if you are a first-time customer at, the coupon code "XOJ002" will get you US$10 off your first order.

Remember to store your nuts in the freezer to prevent the oils from turning rancid!

  1. Where in chinatown do you usually buy the roasted almonds from?

  2. It's raw almonds that I buy from Chinatown; I don't think they sell roasted almonds. I don't consistently buy from any particular shop.... will buy from any shop that looks clean, refrigerates their almonds, and appears to have a high turnover of their nuts.
