A prosperous Chinese New Year to everyone!
This is a plate of some yu sheng from reunion dinner, consisting julienned shreds of carrot, cucumber and daikon, thin slices of salmon sashimi, bulbs of pomelo, a slice of caramelised orange peel, and crushed peanuts.
The newspapers have been reporting the unhealthiness of yu sheng. However the dish has become a yearly tradition which would be odd to suddenly stop. Nonetheless, for the past few years I have been eating only the carrots, cucumber and daikon, with as little plum sauce as possible, and of course the salmon sashimi!
