Estrogen, exercise and imbalance

Cartoon by Frank Coble

On 12 June 2012, Robb Wolf released a podcast titled "Estrogen and Brad Davidson". The blog post itself was not very descriptive, yet I was intrigued because many health bloggers have for awhile been discussing hormonal imbalance and estrogen detox. I usually wait for Robb's podcasts to be transcribed because reading allows me to skim and save time. But this time I actually listened to the podcast itself because I could not wait.

Beng Hiang II

Sometimes when we just cannot think of a place or food to eat, my father suggests Beng Hiang. Familiar location, familiar food, familiar servers. Just the familiarity of the place itself is comforting. Beng Hiang's food is always consistent, which is great when you are tired and want predictability.

Putian Delights

Ever since my father brought home a packet of this Xing Hua Mee Hoon from Putian Delights for himself, with my mother ending up eating it, my mother has been hooked on them. My father loves them as well. Everytime we wait for our order to be cooked, at least one other person orders the same.

Semi-homecooked dinner: Roast duck and pork, kai lan

Mom went to Johor Bahru for errands and bought back some roast duck and roast pork for dinner. Both were succulent, not bad, and better than many Singapore stalls.

Low-carb Cheesecake

Just because you're Paleo doesn't mean you can't have your cake and eat it. Welllllll.... okay, strictly you can't because cheese (dairy) isn't quite Paleo. But it isn't as bad as wheat either, so a once-in-awhile cheesecake should be fine unless you are allergic or sensitive to dairy.

Johor Bahru Handmade Pau: Tau sar pau and char siew pau

After my mother said that the big pork pau from Johor Bahru Handmade Pau ("JBHP") reminded her of the paus she used to eat in Malacca, I wanted to get some tau sar pau and char siew pau for her to try.

Teochew Dynasty

One of my father's favourite dishes is cold crab, and having seen Teochew Dynasty's advertisement in the newspapers for its cold crab, he wanted to try this new restaurant out. As someone who prefers spicy food to say, steamed fish, I am usually more open to trying out new Thai and Indonesian restaurants. So I stepped into this restaurant at Midview City (had never even heard of it before this) with some apprehension.

Modified Anis Bouabsa Baguette

Anis Bouabsa is a French baker who won France's "Best Baguette" in 2008. After reading about another baker's meeting with Bouabsa, and getting his receipe, I wanted to try baking his baguette too.

Johor Bahru Handmade Pau: Big Pork Pau

Whilst shopping in Takashimaya a few weeks ago, I decided to take a look at the food fair in its basement. Amongst the many stalls was Johor Bahru Handmade Pau. Before then I had never heard of it, and had there not been a little queue, I would have dismissed it as just another char siew pau shop.
